Born and raised on a small dairy farm in west-central Michigan, I learned about life and death at an early age. I was lucky enough to have a loving, caring Father who taught me about some of the more intricate 'ins and outs' of living every day.
I started writing simple stories at age six in about 1959 and have been at it ever since. As a boy, no one ever really taught me to read, I just could. I used that gift to find a world I might not have been able to experience for another decade or more. I later became a medic, worked in a psych ward of a prison and spent many years working in Emergency Rooms as an aide and then a nurse.
I just moved to Michigan's Upper Peninsula (da UP!) and am getting settled back into a steady writing habit. I have a flurry of books I will be releasing every month to six weeks. The subject genre runs the gamut from inspirational to romance to a serial killer story. The move to a more solitude in the UP surrounding allows me to write when I want to write.
I've written about my experiences growing up on the farm and my father. I have several stories about the things I saw and experienced in the emergency field, both in and out of the ER. I'll admit that my life story is weird, but I prefer to think of it as an alternate reality in which I am the pioneer and flag planter. I'm crazy, but I suspect most of my readers have figured that out.
I have six, soon to be seven audiobooks out. You can find them over on Audible or on Amazon under my listing for stories and books. I try to add a novella of 16,000 to 22,000 words every month, and at least two to three 40,000+ word novel every year.
Thanks for reading!
Story Updates!
August 12, 2019 - I completed a 15,000-word short story inspired by real events. 'Daddy Has Cancer' was based on a man I knew who put off having a persistent cough that had been going on for almost a year. When he did 'drop by' a local urgent care facility, they found that he had late-stage four lung cancer. He was admitted that afternoon and died four days later. The story was written from my experiences working in an ER, and intentionally 'leaves a mark.' It covers the tale from the father, mother, and ten-year-old son.
June 2, 2019 - I finally finished a story that I started back in November of 2017. I just released "The Murders on Staines Road" June 25. I was cruising along with this story back in 2017, but then I started and finished the story about my wife (I Remember Judy - A Love Story) an 84,000-word project in precisely 30 days. I got further entangled in my next book, "The Brick," a story of loneliness, depression, and how to handle them.
"The Murders on Staines Road" is my first real "R" rated as it details some fairly graphic descriptions of murder based on my twelve years as a paramedic. Check it out! If you have questions, by all means, email me: bmoc66@gmail.com
NEW for June: I've added an Audible edition of "The Brick," my story on loneliness, depression, suicide, and how to feel better about yourself. I also have an Audible version of "I Remember Judy" that will be done by October 1 (I hope!!!) The man who is narrating it has a powerful voice, and to be honest, there are many places that his voice makes me cry. It will be eight hours long.
I have added several short stories of 10-16,000 words including "The Murder of Carrie Greene" and two more substantial works titled "Compulsion: The Neat Freak Murders" and an account for the adult reader titled "Conversations With A Street Whore."
The last story is about a young woman I met in college back in 1972 who became involved with the sex 'industry' over a decade before finally getting caught up in the drugs that eventually destroyed her in the spring of 1994.
It is a drastic turn of writing style for me, but for it to have the impact that I wanted it to have, it had to include her telling of what she was doing for a 'living.' Of all of the stories I've written, this story contains what I consider to be the best intro I have ever written. The first part of the story is not for most people, while the second half made me weep as I recalled the fall of a highly intelligent woman as she lived only to buy more drugs.
I encourage people to email me if they have questions or suggestions on anything I've written.
