Najmah Thomas, PhD, is a full-time Associate Professor in the Human Services Program and a faculty member for African American Studies at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. She earned a BA in Public Policy at the College of William and Mary, a Masters of Adult Education and Distance Learning from the University of Phoenix, and a PhD in Public Policy and Administration (urban policy) at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her career includes serving as Deputy Director for the Crater Regional Workforce Investment Board, Director of Capacity Building for the Cameron Foundation, and Policy Planning Specialist for the Virginia Community College System. She has published several articles and secured numerous grants. A Southeastern Council of Foundations Hull Fellow, she received the Living Legacy Award from the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. She is also a 2017 Fellow with the Institute for African American Research at USC. Najmah Thomas lives in the Beaufort area with her family.
